'Wadlopen' is a typical Dutch activity. One walks on a tidal area in the Northern part of the Netherlands, which is flooded twice a day by the water coming from the North Sea. During low tide it is possible to walk from the mainland to one of the 'Wadden' islands just above the Northern coastline of the Netherlands.

After crossing the 'wad' we had mud everywhere in our clothes, so we had
to do some cleaning up. The best place to do this is in the North Sea at
the Northern beach of the island. |
To get back to the mainland, we had to go to the Southern side of the
island to get the ferry. To save a couple of hours of walking, some
farmers brought us to the other side of the island. |
